(Alleged) Jewish sacrifices of women

The tale of Abraham, who is commanded by Jahwe to sacrifice his only son Isaac, but kept from performing the deed at the last instant (1 Moses 22) is usually regarded as a clear proof that the Jewish god does not want human sacrifices, which therefore have no place in Judaism (which sets this religion apart from many other religions of antiquity).

  1. Some people, however, are not convinced and suspect that ritual human sacrifices have a firm place in Jewish religion.
  2. The rejection of human sacrifices is not so clear in the case of women, as the incident of Jephtha and his daughter shows.
