You have reached the deepest level of the Crypt. The stonework here
is ancient indeed: It turns out that the church had been erected over
an old Roman sanctuary.
Down here the air is cold and damp; it carries a scent of salt water
and sea breeze.
A narrow passage opens on the left side.
It is dark, but the air in it is warm and dry, carrying a fragrance of
pines. The passage runs upwards; there is a light at its end.
